Charles Simmons, Jr., MD is Chairman of Pediatrics and Director of Neonatology at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Dr. Simmons formerly served as Director of the NICU and Associate in Medicine at Children's Hospital Boston. In addition, Dr. Simmons was Assistant Professor in Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School and Director of the Harvard University Training Program in Neonatology.
Dr. Simmons is nationally recognized for his research focusing on the developmental biology of vascular and visceral smooth muscle. Results of these studies will provide neonatologists new insights into the molecular mechanisms of premature birth and lead to advanced therapies to improve the health of newborns. Dr. Simmons' research also focuses on analyzing data gained from the Human Genome Project to explore how genetic information can be used to develop new options for treating common conditions of premature babies.
Dr. Simmons received his bachelor's degree from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln and his medical degree from Harvard Medical School. He completed his internship and residency at Children's Hospital in Boston. In addition, Dr. Simmons was a clinical and research fellow at Children's Hospital, Boston and the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston.
